Modan Kitchen is the latest addition to the Forster dining scene, a blend of Japanese, American and Australian food with a great cocktail list and local beers from Coastal Brewing Co. and best of all Monte Cavoodle was welcome.

We started with a Spicy Pineapple Margarita with jalapeño tequila and a local Coast Brewing Co Hazy Nepa while we read the menu and learned what could be done garlic and onion free for Di.

Monte took a while to get settled under the table while we read the menu, ordered and our drinks arrived. Us being up on stools isn’t his favourite thing, he gets a little fomo not being able to see everything.

Once we ordered the food came fast, the puppy friendly outside bar table did make it a tight squeeze but our waitress managed to fit everything on.

Frickles, yep it’s a thing, a fried pickle, which instantly reminded me of McDonalds pickle, so if you’d childhood memories loved them, this is a winner.

Agadashi tofu is a favourite, these golden crispy rectangles came topped with delicate rice cracker in a large bowl full Japanese broth heavy on shiitake mushrooms.

With the food on the table, and our second round on drinks the way and Mo was happily settled under the table watching the passing pedestrian traffic.

Honey Szechuan Chicken was decadently sweet and crunchy, another great throwback dish to childhood memories in local Aussie Chinese restaurants.

Yellow Fin Tuna with fried Wonton chips was the unexpected highlight! Moreish fried wonton pasty with picked ginger, green chilli and raw tuna created an addictive fresh Jap/Mex fusion nachos.

A great new dining experience in Forster, still the customary chilled beach vibes with a nice modern Asian twist coming out of the kitchen.

After dinner we walked it off with a stroll along lakes entrance opposite Miles Island as the sun was slowly setting.
