Bucket List 64: see The The live in concert
The The was in Sydney in 1989 and I missed it. The The stopped releasing music, and touring, in 2003 and I thought my chances of seeing them were wishful thinking. The ever reclusive Matt Johnson continued writing music, but now for for documentaries, film, theatre and art installation projects.

But, ever optimistic I was still hopeful The The may do some tiny little gig in somewhere in London and I'd fly over. The suddenly in 2017 Matt Johnson reformed The The and announced a word tour that included two gigs in Sydney.
2018 - 2nd and 3rd October at The Sydney Opera House

Not knowing if The The would ever return to Sydney, I clearly had to attend both concerts, and Im glad that I did. Matt Johnson is a lot older than when he wrote the songs, and throughout the concert he'd share stories or circumstance and emotions of love, loss and death that led to the creation of the music.

The The has been my favourite band for as long as I can remember, and yes, I've also been repeating the band name for as long as I can remember. No one has ever heard of The The, but most people have heard The The music in soundtracks like Empire Records and Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
